West Loop Chicago Lofts

One of the most quintessential Chicago architecture styles are downtown Chicago lofts. In the late 90s and early 2000s the conversion of old factories and warehouses to condos began in the West Loop and the demand for this style of home has only risen! Upon entering a loft, the expansive ceilings, exposed brick, beams and open floor plans offer so much character and history, it’s easy to understand why this style is so sought after!

River North Lofts for sale

A few of our favorite neighborhoods to keep in mind when looking for Chicago lofts are:

West Loop: The most obvious choice, we know, but there’s a reason this neighborhood is so popular! The nightlife, dining scene and historic buildings create an ambiance of rock and roll luxury that can’t be beat. Buildings to consider include, The Acorn Lofts (1017 W Washington- Built in 1902) and 1000 W Washington (built in 1910).

Printers Row (South Loop): If you’re a history buff, this South Loop neighborhood of Printers Row offers an abundance of cool historic and architectural facts. As one can tell by its name, Printers Row was the epicenter of book printing and binding in the midwest during the late 19th century. Millions of books made their way around the world from this neighborhood. By the 1970s, after the printers were shuttered and/or abandoned, developers knew this gem of a neighborhood needed to be revitalized. The conversion of these factories began and are now home to some of the most fabulous loft condos. Buildings to consider: Donahue Building Lofts (711 S Dearborn - Built in 1883) and Printers Row Lofts (732 S Financial - built in 1908).

River North: While River North offers a plethora of luxury real estate options, there are a few distinct loft buildings that you should definitely consider. With its proximity to restaurants, shopping, and nightlife, River North offers the best of the best this city has to offer! Buildings to consider range from the boutique (152 W Huron - Built in 1908) to the sprawling Sexton Lofts (360 W Illinois - Built in 1916).

Bucktown / Wicker Park: This family friendly neighborhood with its picturesque tree lined streets offers a beautiful respite from the hustle and bustle of downtown without compromising lifestyle with its great restaurant and bar options as well as an easy commute. This neighborhood is home to a vibrant art scene and culture as well and the lofts for sale typically sell quickly! Buildings to consider: Clock Tower Lofts (2300 W Wabansia - built in 1906) and the Ludwig Drum Factory Boutique Loft Building (1728 N Damen - Home of the Ludwig Drum Co. from the late 1930s until the 1980s).

Architecture is a major part of Chicago’s intricate history and the loft style is no exception. What is your favorite architecture style? And as always, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us if you need help with your Chicago home search!
